VISITORS BUREAU USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO PROMOTE NEW HARRISBURG HYDRANT HYSTERIA PROGRAM DURING FESTIVAL

Harrisburg, PA (Sept. 3, 2009) – Mary Smith, President of the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau (HHRVB) today announced the bureau kicked off a “Strike A Pose” project that encourages those attending Harrisburg’s annual Kipona Festival this holiday weekend to take photos with their favorite decorative fire hydrant located throughout the city’s downtown district.

Photos submitted to Info@HersheyHarrisburg.org will be posted on the bureau’s social photo sharing Web site, Flickr.com/photos/HersheyHarrisburg. The project is intended to continue the awareness of this summer’s Hydrant Hysteria art program, organized by the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District (DID).

Flickr is just one of the new social media channels HHRVB has developed since hiring a Social Media Manager in late January, according to Smith.  In the past two months the bureau has soft-launched a full range of new social media platforms including UStreamTV, Twitter, You Tube, Travel Blog, and LinkedIn Group.  

Photos of people with the Harrisburg hydrants can be submitted at INFO@HersheyHarrisburg.org (Subject: Hydrant Hysteria Photos) or mailed to Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau, C/O Hydrant Hysteria Photos, 17 South 2^nd Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. People will also have the opportunity to post comments about the photos featured on the bureau’s Flickr “Hydrant Hysteria” page.
